You should register your trademark if you do any interstate commerce of any kind. That is the requirement for the USPTO to approve and issue a trademark to a company. The American market is still the worlds biggest, but China is growing rapidly and is about to replace Japan and the worlds largest market.
Things are different in China as compared to the United States. In America, your trademark is for your business and if there is one similar in another region that is in another type of business, it could still be approved. In China it is first come, first serve. Preferential treatment of Chinese companies will occur but by registering first in this vast market is the best chance you can keep your business.
This registration should occur for any company doing business there. The most important are the ones involved in manufacturing. It has happened before and will occur again, when a Chinese entrepreneur finds an unprotected product being produced in their country. By submitting a registration for a trademark to cover that product, even one they are not producing, it will be granted to them. You will not be able to export you products until you pay the fee that the trademark owner requires. This is not fair but is considered a wise business move for many Chinese.
The cost of this filing will be minimal of $535 US that includes the research on Chinese trademarks and the registration fees. This will only cover one mark in one class. One thing American will not be able to do on their own is to register your trademark form themselves unless they know the Chinese language. That comes at an additional charge.
With all the crazy amount of time we all spend at work, with our family and getting chores done, it is a wonder any of us ever have the time to spend time with friends. When I was younger I used to have all kinds of friends. We would all go down to Florida for the spring break and hang at the open houses like we were looking for South Florida Homes for Sale. Of course, I do not think anyone was fooled, but we sure had fun! But those carefree times are long gone and I think back to those madcap Florida days with longing sometimes.
When I was married, we would get together with other couples and do the cheap version of a holiday. We would go camping. Of course first you needed to Find Your Cheap Camping Equipment and a place to camp. We seemed to always find a hidden meadow or a local back forty that would not cost us anything to fish and camp, and drink too much beer, for the week. Someone always brought a guitar and it seems someone always just barely missed chopping off an extremity or two. But no big mishaps, just plenty of good times with good friends. It did not take much to give us a great week, so long as it did not rain and the bears stayed away.
These days I spend my time taking care of my home, which includes a fair amount of time weeding the garden and mowing the lawn. My friends will come over for a Bar B Q and we will discuss learning about planting grass seed or which variety of crab grass we think that is in the corner. I love my garden, and love the fact that all my flowers come from the gardens of my friends. My sister taught me about Friendship Gardens and I still treasure them.
But most of all, I treasure my friends. It does not matter if they are someone I have know since those crazy days of Florida house crashing, my Canadian years of cooking marshmallows over the campfire or my friends today with Bar B Q recipes and new plants to share. Somehow, friendships are what make us rich, beyond anything in our bank accounts.
When we think of Life insurance, many of us don’t think we’ll ever need it. We may get it because we have a family, or in case the kids get sick. We typically don’t consider a stay in the hospital. However, these things can happen, and when they do, it will probably be out of nowhere. This is where our Critical Illness Cover comes in. We need that helping hand when the occasion arises. Do you have any idea what three days in the hospital will cost you? Most people don’t, but it can really set you back. Especially when we’re young, we hardly take the time to find Life insurance. I look back when I was in college, and I could have cared less who had the best rates. I wasn’t interested in Cheap Life insurance at all. Why would I be? I was only 20 years old. This is a common mistake made by many of us. The cold, hard truth is that you’d better be prepared with some kind of insurance. For example, a close friend of mine was suddenly hospitalized. She didn’t know what was wrong with her, but she was suddenly ill. After the doctor checked her out, she found out that she had meningitis. Yikes! Well, she didn’t have over 50 life insurance. This ended up costing her over seven grand.
We live in a world of uncertainty. You never know if this is the day when you’ll wreck your car, or take a tumble down the stairs and break a leg. It’s clearly prudent to be prepared for such accidents. Although we don’t ponder, nor contemplate these notions on a regular basis, it’s good to have a back-up plan just the same. In other words, we should all have some kind of Life insurance. The key of course, is finding that Cheap Life insurance that won’t break the bank.
You look around your house and see muddle building up. All of a sudden, you decide to declutter your house but don’t know where to begin. You start by the firm backbone to declutter and organize your home. A general declutter day could be scheduled or a room by room or area by area approach can be made. Whatever schedule that you decide upon, it must be followed so that confidence and fulfillment results in the end.
clutter results when you are a rat pack or a compulsive hoarder. Have you seen the reality shows on the telly about folks who hoard enough things to fill a complete warehouse? These people wanted help to declutter then organize their houses and their lives again. Having a clean and neat home permits you to think better and make life simpler.
When you predict in-flow of gifts during occasions like birthdays, anniversaries, marriages, Christmas or baptisms then the key to stop debris is by pre-organizing. Look around your space and decide where to put the added items. If you are expecting gifts for youngsters then choose which old toys or clothing can be disposed of. You can have a box for which to put the new items or for the old ones that may be given or disposed of to make room for the fresh ones. You declutter then pre-organize which will take off the stress after the occasion or event.
For sure, you have items and things that you keep but do not actually use anymore. Those things could be there for emotional reasons but they occupy space so you’ve got to declutter then organize where it can be stored. Constantly check for toys, clothes, paper or documents, etc. That you may not need anymore. Children grow beyond garments faster and you could have clothes that are out of fashion. These can all be donated to the Salvation Army or given to the less fortunate in your community. There are also things that need to be weeded out. Toss or shred documents that you now do not need to keep. Put in a rubbish bag, the clothes and toys that are not usable anymore.
if you need to declutter and organize, you can decide on a theme for your house. It can be a color palette or a motif. After you decide on this, you can take out things that don’t go with the theme. A theme can help you pick which items to keep and which ones to store for future use.
‘Clean as you go’ is not just a junk food operations slogan but can be applied to your home as well . Everyone in your household must follow this rule. Even tiny kids can follow this by placing their toys on appointed places after they are done with playing. The slogan can most apply to the kitchen. When you clean right away your work space, organize and store utensils and ingredients, you are decluttering and this is an excellent practice.
When you look around your home, imagine a signal that says’Start here.’ you may then follow thru on your call to declutter and organize your space as you plan it.

It was a sweltering night in the jungle. I was at the La Pita emerald mining consortium complex near Maripi Colombia. An emerald broker from Muzo had taken me there to show me the operations as a part of my training.
The complex has rooms in a sort of a timeshare type arrangement where relatively successful miners and brokers stay when they come to the mining zone. There was also a hacienda on a hill overlooking the camp.
Initially I was in a shared room with another miner, it was kind of like an extended stay hotel room with kitchenette, bathroom, and air conditioning. For reasons that were never explained to me, I was moved out of the “hotel” and up to a private room in the hacienda.
Unfortunately, this room lacked any of the modern conveniences of the timeshare rooms and the heat was absolutely unbearable. All I had for cooling was an old worn out floor fan. In this heat it made little difference, it barely worked and made a terrible racket. I really could not sleep with all the noise it made. I found myself wishing I had brought along the small desktop fan I had purchased from http://www.desktopfan.org. I bought the desktop fan shortly before leaving for Colombia but the shipping was too slow to get it to me in time for the trip.
So I spent a sweltering night at the mining camp without any means of cooling off. I was in a second floor room of a old uninsulated house where heat rose and seemed to collect on the scond floor.I don’t plan on ever returning to the Colombian jungle, but if I should ever find myself having to do so, I’ll be sure to bring my own fan, life without it there would be unbearable.

My mom liked to use the sewing machine when I was as a toddler. I remember thinking to be a a privileged girl, because my momma would design all of us matching casual clothes and told us us to wear them outdoors. I didn’t understand in those days was the reason my older brothers and sisters didn’t like the experience but I suppose in the event that I was in their teenage age I might have joined in the rally as well. With it every one of us believed that those moments where we would observe my momma slave away for a multitude of hours to mend our clothing, make my sisters Prom dress, or help us have a grand time by making whacky costumes were the best we ever had.
It was only normal that for my Mother’s 70th birthday we all decided to get a memorable surprise that would create some form of nostalgia for her. I recommended considering antique sewing machine parts and also purchase one one which still operates, since my mother lost this vintage sewing machine cabinet inside a house fire when I was 17. My siblings agreed that this was a marvelous investment as well as the perfect birthday present. I peered around many antique stores and flea markets for antique sewing machines in working condition however failed to get lucky until eventually I tried browsing on the internet.
I discovered many antique sewing machines through Singer that functioned just fine and all at a handsome price from a handful of internet auction online websites. My momma was just so excited when she found out just what all of us had given her for her birthday that year. Celebrating in my mom cry tears of joy as she remembered what passion she had for sewing on her 70th birthday is a precious occasion for us, her children.
Introduction
For many years businesses and event organisers have worked hard to communicate messages about their organisation through the use of many different channels of communication.
The use of promotional items has been just one of the marketing elements implemented by businesses and event organisers. Branding of the promotional items with a printed message targeted to their customers is recognised as a simple and easy method of ensuring that a message remains in front of their target audience for an appropriate length of time. Messages can be timely to a particular sales campaign to ensure that whatever the occasion, the target audience are left with a reminder of the occasion and will be able to recall the occasion at a future time. Businesses in particular have always felt that a reminder of their company name on a promotional item left in front of a potential customer will be of benefit in the end. Promotional items are a great accessory to support any sales campaign.
In recent years the number of businesses offering promotional items and printed promotional goods has grown dramatically. Today, there is a vast range of promotional items and printed promotional goods now available. Promotional items used to consist of simple products such as pens, badges and balloons, but in more recent times the range has evolved enormously. Specialist promotional marketing companies now supply marketing products ranging from the traditional pens and pencils, to eco friendly promotional items made from recycled or biodegradable materials, to a range of organic clothing and accessories.
History of Promotional Marketing Products
Promotional items used to be associated with commemorative occasions such as Queen Elizabeth’s Coronation in 1953. I recall that my mother had collected commemorative items such as cups, saucers, spoons and plates to commemorate the occasion.
The earliest use of promotional items as commemorative products is thought to be the 1789 US election of George Washington. The occasion was recognised with the production and issue of commemorative buttons. In the early 1800s an American printer took an idea to a local shoe retailer suggesting that the store should print its name on book bags and supply them to local school children. The idea was a great success and soon bags were being printed and sold for all sorts of products. The use of printed promotional bags is a great way to advertise your company’s name.
In the UK two trade associations represent the manufacture and distribution of marketing and promotional products industry. In 1958, the Promotional Merchandise Trade Association (Promota) was formed and in 1965 the British Promotional Merchandise Association (BPMA) was founded. The manufacture and distribution of marketing and promotional products is a growing business sector.
Delegates and visitors love to buy event merchandise as reminder of their visit to a concert or sporting event.
The Growth of the Promotional Products Industry
In the 1970s and 80s, the main time of year to distribute promotional products was at Christmas. The promotional items usually consisted of calendars, often printed with the company name on, or bottles of drink. The items were often given as a gesture of thanks for a customers business throughout the year. I remember my father coming home from work just before Christmas in the 70s with bottles of drink which customers had given him. In recent times, the range of promotional products has grown, with the idea of offering different marketing products throughout the year. Companies could see an opportunity to use promotional marketing goods more widely throughout the year. With the increasing number of different cultures in the UK the seasonality effect also began to lessen in importance. Some companies now hand out branded advent calendars at Christmas.
My first recollection of promotional marketing items was a collection of musicians and then football players. The well known UK jam manufacturer James Robertson used a golliwog named Golly on its labeling and by collecting tokens, you could then send off to collect the promotional item on offer at that time. Robertson’s had used the golly as a mascot since 1910 and in the 1920s produced promotional pin badges using the Golliwog doll. The Golly promotional items existed until the 1980s when a political debate ensued and claimed that the company’s’ products were seen as offensive in a multi cultural environment. The promotional idea was scrapped in 2001.
Companies realised that promotional products could play an important part in promoting of their event which led to many organisations becoming more creative with the use of promotional items. Depending upon the business industry marketing campaigns are now developed throughout the year and the range of promotional merchandise now available means that promotional products can be customised to support any event at any time of the year.
As a marketing manager of a leading business in the UK, I used to receive promotional merchandise catalogues, which contained more pages than a telephone directory. It would be crammed full of an exhaustive range of promotional products available in the market. As recently as 2007, suppliers of promotional merchandise were themselves becoming more innovative in their own marketing techniques, by targeting specific organisations with tailored promotional merchandise offerings rather than a full range catalogue. With many organisations wishing to be seen as ‘doing its bit’ for the environment, manufacturers of promotional marketing items need to remain creative in sourcing new ideas for promotional products.
Many businesses prefer to offer promotional items which will not be damaging to the environment when thrown away and have been produced from recycled, reused or biodegradable materials. Almost every distributor now has a website promoting its range of promotional items. It is however, very difficult to showcase every item as the ranges are now so vast. A businesses or organisations printed promotional requirement can be very complex, so it is difficult to order on line. You will always find marketing products available from companies at exhibitions.
The Growing Uses of Marketing Promotional Products
The promotional merchandise industry in the UK and Ireland is big business with a market size in excess £900bn. Businesses and organisations recognise that the benefits of selling marketing promotional products all year round, can add value to any event by utilising the huge range of promotional marketing products to reinforce a message.
The market has grown considerably since the days of a business showing its appreciation to its clients at Christmas, for business placed throughout the year. Many large organisations now hold stocks of promotional items themselves as an instant giveaway item. As a Marketing Manager employed by a large UK business, we held stocks of several carefully selected promotional giveaway items. The items would be made available for the sales teams to give to customers, to hand out to school children on educational visits and as a giveaway at exhibitions and conferences. Each of the promotional items reflected the values of our business and being a waste management company, the selection of promotional products chosen were of an environmental nature. The range included pens, pencils and rulers made from recycled plastic drinking cups, branded notepads made from recycled paper and biodegradable carrier bags. In our business we chose to use recycled promotional items as the environmental message is very important to us. They are not as expensive as you might think.
In any industry, companies who participate in conferences will always handout a selection of branded promotional items. The intention is to make their business brand stand out from its competitors. The type of promotional product selected will largely depend on your particular industry sector. For example, IT companies are likely to choose mouse mats, memory sticks and other IT related promotional products to hand out to customers and potential customers. I attended an exhibition last week and noticed that fewer companies were actually handing out giveaways. I spoke with a few companies, who told me that they had decided against freely handing out promotional items, due to the current economic climate. There is a great selection of low cost cheap promotional items to choose from.
The increase in the use of marketing promotional products can be seen at sporting events and concerts. Many of these events are sponsored by large organisations who support their sponsorship activity through the supply of promotional merchandise. Sponsors will hand out items such as cheap promotional pens, branded with their company logo to visitors. Guests who have been fortunate enough to be invited in to the sponsors area may receive special promotional products such as caps or t-shirts. In sponsoring these types of events where there is guaranteed to be a large footfall of visitors, it offers the sponsor an opportunity to use marketing promotional products to try and increase the reach of its services to new potential customers. Customised T-shirts are much sought after promotional products by visitors to any concert.
You can buy low cost printed pens made from recycled plastic cups as a cheap giveaway item.
In recent years there has been an increase in the selection of environmentally friendly promotional products. This has evolved from the increase in the volume of materials now being recycled. Manufacturers of promotional products have recognised the importance of businesses being seen as taking the environmental message seriously. For example, it’s no good the major retail supermarkets saying that they are cutting down on the use of packaging on their products, if they continue to issue customers with the old fashioned non-degradable plastic carrier bags. You will have seen that the big supermarkets now provide customers with branded biodegradable carrier bags and encourage customers to reuse bags from previous visits by offering discounts for doing so.
The range of materials now used to manufacture eco-friendly promotional products has increased considerably. The key recycled materials used in the manufacture of promotional goods include, plastics and plastic cups, tyres, leather, textiles, metal, wood and car parts. There is now a huge range of promotional goods to choose from which have been made from recycled materials. The larger suppliers of promotional products have also perfected techniques to provide good quality printing onto these products, so businesses need not worry about the reproduction of their logo.
Conclusion
The industry for marketing promotional products has changed dramatically over the last 30 - 40 years. There are a number of key reasons for its growth.
We live in a world where, there is fierce competition amongst businesses to be noticed above your competitors. The clamour amongst mobile telephone companies to offer the best contracts is a prime example of a really competitive market place. We are also in a world where the environment is high on many people’s agenda. There is a real desire to safeguard our environment for the future, by doing all we can to reduce packaging, divert waste from landfill to recycling and reuse more of what we would normally throw away. This focus has benefited the promotional merchandise market. The industry has had to become more innovative in the range of goods it can now offer. The creation of a new range of environmentally friendly promotional goods | items | products }made from recycled material has had a significant impact upon the growth of the industry. There are so many options available to printing promotional products that you can be really creative in your message, if the budget allows.
Businesses will continue to use promotional goods as a marketing tool to reach their desired target audience. Branding of companies promotional items with a printed slogan targeted to their employees is recognised as a simple and easy method of ensuring that a message remains in front of their target audience for an appropriate length of time. Businesses will always feel that a little reminder of their company name on a promotional item left in front of a potential customer will be of benefit in the end. Great promotional products will leave a lasting impression.
